The electricity department in Valpoi has completed extensive preparations to tackle challenges during the monsoon season and work towards stable power supply across Sattari taluka.
Valpoi Electricity Department Assistant Engineer Arvind Gaude said a significant portion of the underground cabling project has already been completed, while the remaining work will be taken up after the monsoon.
“The department is making every effort to provide reliable and quality electricity to residents throughout the monsoon. However, we appeal to citizens to cooperate with authorities during emergency situations,” said Gaude.
Electricity remains a crucial service for residents across Sattari. Compared to the past five years, efforts to ensure uninterrupted power supply have been considerably more successful this year.
Since Sattari is largely covered by forests, many power lines pass through densely wooded areas. During heavy rains and strong winds, falling trees and branches often disrupt power supply.
Frequent power outages that once plagued the region have been significantly reduced due to the installation of underground power lines and prompt maintenance of the electricity network.
Providing details, Gaude said approval has been granted for 64 kms of 33 KV underground transmission lines. Of this, 30 kms have already been completed, while the remaining work will commence after the monsoon season.
He said the tendering process for the remaining section is currently underway and work will gain momentum once the formalities are completed.
The department has also completed 170 kms of the planned 252-kilometre 11 KV underground power network. Installation of covered conductors is underway across an additional 62 kms, while approximately 30 kms of work will be completed after the monsoon.
Special precautions have been taken at locations where trenches have been dug for underground cables to ensure that no inconvenience or safety issues arise during the rainy season.
With a large portion of the underground cabling work already completed, authorities expect a much more stable power supply during this monsoon season.
To prevent branches from falling on power lines and causing outages, large-scale tree-trimming operations are being carried out across the taluka.
According to Gaude, around 90 percent of work has been completed and the remaining portion will be finished within the next eight days.
