Power infra faces brunt, may take 2 days to normalise

MAPUSA

The cyclonic rain and fierce wind has brought down electricity poles, snapped power lines and conductors causing major damage to power infrastructure in Bardez.

In Mapusa at least one transformer centre and main 33 KV double pole structure near St Xavier’s College has come down.

Senior electricity department officials were not willing to hazard a guess when the power will be restored in Mapusa or Bardez.

“The power infra has been hit very hard. It may take at least another two days to restore normal supply to Mapusa and Bardez,” a senior engineer in the power department informed.

The department officials were on their toes throughout the day trying to fix lines and erect poles wherever possible.

Apart from having to work in trying circumstance, the department was also facing a shortage of manpower.
