CANACONA
People in many parts of Canacona have been forced to spend the fourth night without power supply, after cyclone Tauktae wreaked havoc in the taluka on Saturday night.
Even as the electricity department staff and workers have been working overtime to restore power supply in Canacona, nearly 40% of areas in Canacona were still without power till Tuesday.
“Power has been restored in 60% areas of the taluka and we will work non-stop to restore electricity to the remaining areas within the next two days,” said Canacona Assistant Engineer Sanjay Goankar.
Goankar almost all High Tension (HT) lines were restored in Canacona municipality and most areas in other villages by Tuesday evening, while some HT lines were still left to be restored.
“The electricity department staff and workers have been working non-stop and power has been partially restored in Agonda, Khola, Poinguinim, Loliem-Polem, Gaondongrim and Shristhal, while a few Low Tension alignments in the municipal areas will be repaired by Wednesday.”
“We have restored power at Kazumoll area in Khola village. We expect to clear the entire Loliem-Polem village by Tuesday night. We have restored the HT line at Galgibaga and most parts of Poinguinim, Gaondongrim and Shristhal.”
Gaonkar said the issue at Agonda was largely at Val-Aframent and Dessaiwada.
“We could restore power to most parts of Agonda, but considering that Khola village depends on the Agonda feeder, we expect to restore full power supply over the next two days,” he said.
According to sources, Canacona has not been allotted a contractor and as a result, the electricity department staff are involved in restoring power supply in the taluka.
Gaonkar said senior officials at the electricity department have agreed to depute a contractor, presently engaged in restoring electricity in others parts of the State, to Canacona taluka as well.
