This family stays in a small house at Agalli-Gogol in Fatorda constituency with bare minimum electrical appliances - a refrigerator, fans, a mixer etc. Only a month ago, household owner Piedade Borges had knocked the doors of the power officials when he received a power bill amounting Rs 4073.
Taken aback by the huge bill, Borges explained to the power officials that he lives in a house with bare minimum appliances and pleaded that the department mete out justice for him by rectifying the bill. He returned
Borges went by the assurance of the Power officials and paid the bill with the hope that the department would rectify the bill and give him justice.
But, the worst was yet to come for the Borges family. Instead of getting justice from the department, Borges got a shock of his life when he received a bill amounting to a whopping Rupees forty-four lakh eighty five thousand and two hundred eighty nine (Rs 44.85 lakh) raised by the department.
"I have a small house with bare minimum electrical appliances. And, I am charged Rs 44.85 lakh for the power consumption. I am shocked and surprised to receive the hefty bill. I will take up the matter with the power department", Borges told The Goan.
He, however, sounded apprehensive whether the department will rectify the bill or ask him to first pay the bill and then come with a plea for rectification. "Last time round, I was told to pay the bill and then ask for rectification", he pointed out.
Borges is apparently worried about the fact whether the department will ask him again to pay the bill and then come for rectification. "From where will I arrange this amount to pay the power bill", Borges wondered, while seeking justice from the power department.
