Pre-monsoon showers arrived on Sunday, bringing heavy rain to several parts of Sattari taluka and disrupting normal life. Residents faced difficulties as water accumulated on roads and drains overflowed in many areas.

In several parts of the taluka, drain-cleaning work remains incomplete, leading to waterlogging and inconvenience for local residents.

The day began with hot and humid weather, but at around 3 pm, heavy rain suddenly lashed the region. Areas including Thane, Koparde, Nagargaon, Sonal and several other villages received intense rainfall, affecting daily activities.

Although no major damage has been reported, residents had to cope with various problems caused by the sudden downpour.

Residents taken by surprise

The rain started unexpectedly at around 3 pm on Sunday. Reports suggest that several villages received heavy showers. Continuous rainfall for nearly three hours caused waterlogging in many places, creating difficulties for residents. Two-wheeler riders were among the worst affected, with many stranded due to the heavy rain.

As it was a Sunday, the impact on routine activities was limited. However, many people still faced inconvenience because of the sudden change in weather.

Waterlogging in many areas

Waterlogging was reported on roads leading to several villages across Sattari taluka. While roads were not submerged, poor drainage and blocked gutters led to water accumulation at many locations. In several panchayat areas, drain-cleaning work is still incomplete. Overflowing drains also caused garbage and debris to spill onto roads, drawing strong criticism from residents.

Citizens expressed anger over the failure to complete drain-cleaning work despite the arrival of the rainy season. Residents demanded that the Block Development Office should not clear bills for works in villages where drains have not been cleaned. There are allegations that, in some cases, bills are processed without proper cleaning work being carried out, leaving residents to face the consequences.

No Major Damage Reported

Despite the heavy rainfall, no major damage has been reported. Officials from the Valpoi Fire and Emergency Services said they did not receive any emergency calls related to the rain. Although there were brief power cuts in some areas, electricity supply was restored within a short time.
