The pre-monsoon works in Mapusa got a head start after the Water Resources Department (WRD) began work to clear the big nullahs from Khorlim, Mapusa.
The WRD has clubbed desilting of various nullahs in the municipal area in seven different works, six of which have been approved.
Chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council, Shubhangi Vaigankar along with local councilors, Swapnil Shirodkar and Viraj Phadke launched the pre-monsoon works started by the WRD in Khorlim.
There are 15 nullahs in all in Mapusa.
The civic officials informed that desilting of nullah from Keni-vaddo via Maruti Temple/Hanuman Natyagraha/fish market up to Tar river, the nullah besides police station via Garden Centre up to Grand Morod, the nullah from Ganganagar Khorlim via Usaplar shop up to Bodgeshwar Temple and the nullah behind municipal garage via Braganza Appt/Communidade Ghor up to adjoining fields need to be taken up on top priority.
They also stressed that the nullahs from Remanso hospital via old Asilo hospital, Gaunsavaddo up to River Tar, from Shetye-vaddo via St Anthony’s School connecting the Cunchelim spring, Galaxy hospital up to Feroz Khan house and Adv Dessai’s house via Landmark supermarket have also to be cleaned.
They further said that the nullahs besides Krishna temple, Xelpem via Blue Star Bar, from Khadpawado vio MFA Gardens complex, behind Bandekar petrol pump via Cunchelim spring up to Neekunj housing society in Cunchelim, in Dattaprasad colony, from Satinganwadi to Ganesh temple to behind Sateri temple to Usapkar junction and from Shivling temple to Konuri house have also to be desilted.
In the meanwhile, the civic had already started desilting and cleaning work of all drains/gutters in the market and in different wards as a part of its pre-monsoon preparations.
Local MLA Joshua D’Souza has also been pro-active in holding meetings with officials of various government departments to coordinate on the pre-monsoon works.
