Government hikes wages of unskilled manual workers under MGNREGA scheme

The Goa government has raised the minimum wage for unskilled manual workers under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to Rs 315 per day with effect from April 1, 2022.

Earlier minimum daily wage was Rs 294 per day.

The Ministry of Rural Development had earlier on March 28, 2022 issued a notification enhancing the daily wage rates from Rs 294 to Rs 315.

The minimum wage of an unskilled worker under MGNREGA scheme will now be Rs 315 per day.

The Goa government has made these rates applicable from April 1 by issuing a notification. Meena H Naik Goltekar ex officio Joint secretary  Department of Rural Development has issued a notification in this regard.  

It may be noted that Sub-section (1) of section 6 of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 gives power to the Central government to change the wage rate.
