Around 25-30 pre-primary teachers from government-aided schools in the State marched to the Directorate of Education in Porvorim on Monday evening, to raise their long-pending grievances.
The teachers were led by former GPCC president Amit Patkar and accompanied by John Nazareth and Manisha Usgaonkar.
During the protest, Patkar and the pre-primary teachers questioned Director of Education Shailesh Zingade regarding issues such as job insecurity, low remuneration, and the lack of a regulatory framework for the implementation of the 'National Education Policy (NEP) 2020'.
Zingade assured the teachers that he would present their pending issues before the government.
Later speaking to the media, Patkar criticised Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for failing to resolve the issues faced by pre-primary teachers in government-aided schools and for offering nothing but hollow assurances.
“We will meet the Director of Education in Porvorim again after eight days and subsequently issue an ultimatum to the government to resolve the grievances of the pre-primary teachers,” said Patkar.
