Addressing the World Youth Skills Day 2026 programme on Wednesday, Sawant said the government would ensure that long-serving contractual employees are given priority in recruitment under its policy. “There are many dedicated workers who have served for more than 10 years and have contributed towards educating our students. Through our policy, we will give them priority while filling job vacancies. ITI courses should not be considered secondary,” Sawant said.
Sawant also announced that Goa has become the first state in the country to secure ISO certification for all 11 government ITIs. He said the State Government would invest Rs 180 crore to modernise the institutes and provide students with world-class training facilities.
The Chief Minister further announced that, in collaboration with the Fire and Emergency Services Department, ITI students will receive dual certification - an ITI certificate along with a Fire and Emergency Safety certificate.
He added that the Fire and Emergency Safety certification would be made mandatory for students aspiring to pursue careers in the Fire and Emergency Services sector. “As time passes, we have also modified the certification and recruitment rules to ensure that we get trained experts in this field,” Sawant said.
