In its first formal function, the newly constituted Staff Selection Commission has set in motion a procedure for recruiting around 120 accountants and is currently scouting for an agency which will conduct the examination.
The Commission’s chairman Punit Goyal, finance secretary Daulat Hawaldar and Civil service officer Menino D’Souza constitute the three-member body. The Goa government formed the Staff Selection Commission last week after it enacted the Goa Staff Selection Commission Act in the monsoon session of the Goa legislative assembly in August.
Meanwhile, the procedure of framing the guidelines for the working of commission is being carried out by the personnel department. Staff Selection Commission is listing all ‘C’ level posts of various categories to be filled and these posts will be soon advertised. The post of accountants will be advertised separately.
It may recalled the Inter Departmental Committee of Officers has identified around
120 vacant posts of accountants in various departments. Earlier the government has conducted a written test for 80 posts and all 8,000 persons appeared for the exam could not clear the exam.
Now these posts will be filled through Staff selection commission. The Goa Staff Selection Commission Bill, 2019 that stipulates to recruit Class C posts through the examination and interviews has been given assent by the Governor in September 2019.
The Chief Minister has cancelled all advertisement and ordered that henceforth, recruitment for Group C posts will have to be carried out only through the staff selection commission only.
In the order issued on September 6, CM Sawant had asked all departments that have advertised for Group C posts after the bill was passed in the assembly last month to withdraw the release.
