Goa State Industries Association (GSIA) president, Rajkumar Kamat, has informed that 120 applications for plot transfer and sub-lease are pending before Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC).
Even earlier, industries have complained that it is very tough to get land in Goa. On top of it, 120 applications pending before GIDC for plot transfer and sub-lease paint a sorry picture for the industrial sector.
Kamat said, "In the last eight months, no plot transfer or sub-lease took place in industrial estates of the state. This was because GIDC did not have a board. Now, the new board has been formed. An interim screening committee has been set up to look into the cases of sub-lease and plot-transfer." As it is, industries find it tough to get fresh industrial plots in Goa. In such a case, plot transfer and sub-lease with an existing unit can help industrialists in setting up a base in the state.
The previous government had reduced the sub-lease charges to a huge extent, but even then the whole process of getting all permissions for sub-lease and plot transfer is really time taking in Goa.
Kamat said, "The interpretation of some of the processes has come in the way of ease of sub-lease and transfer of plots. We are working with the government to bring in easier processes for sub-lease and plot transfer without sacrificing transparency."
