Amid large-scale celebrations on the occasion of 67th Karnataka Rajyotsava in Belagavi city on Tuesday, a group of residents under under the banner of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) observed a ‘Black Day’ with a public rally.
Sporting black clothes and holding saffron flags the pro-Maharashtra rally was held under the surveillance of the police. Apart from senior citizens and youngsters, a large number of women and children had taken part in the rally. People attending the rally chanted slogans that demanded the merger of Belagavi and some border areas with Maharashtra.
MES leaders Manohar Kinekar, Shivaji Sunthkar, Prakash Margale and others addressed the meeting demanding the immediate merger of Belagavi, Karwar, Bidar, Bhalki and some otherborder areas of Karnataka into Maharashtra.
