Speaking to media persons at Ribandar on Wednesday, Madkaikar said he had hoped that the government would remove the floatel after the July 7 agitation, but expressed displeasure that it did not happen. “I have information that a prominent BJP leader is closely linked to the floatel, due to which the government is unwilling to act. When I get all the proof, I will reveal the name of the leader,” he stated. Madkaikar informed that a resolution has been moved against the casinos in the Assembly and also a calling attention motion would be moved. The Cumbarjua MLA also said revenue is leaked as there is nobody to monitor the number of people entering the casinos. “Around 5,000 people enter casinos every day, but only 800 are shown,” he said, while stating that the revenue earned should be Rs 5,000 crore and not Rs 245 crore that the government currently gets. “Black money is converted into white money in these casinos,” he added as people enter with huge wads of cash and there is nobody to monitor where this money comes from. Madkaikar then expressed fear that Goa is being turned into another Macau. “After Las Vegas, Goa is the second destination where maximum players gamble and maximum revenue is earned,” he stated.
