The Directorate of Public Grievances has asked the Vigilance Department and the Director General of Police to submit action taken report (ATR) into the alleged Police Sub Inspector (PSI) recruitment scam within 15 days.
The official communique dated January 27, 2023 and released to the media on Wednesday came in response to Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai’s letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah in October 2022 seeking an impartial inquiry and scrapping of the post. It is believed that the report has been submitted since the deadline is over.
Sardesai has hailed the development stating that government should come out clean on the issue.
In his letter to Shah, Sardesai exposed more faults in the scam calling it a criminal conspiracy. “I demand that the recruitment process must be scrapped and a retired High Court judge must be appointed to investigate the faults of the recruitment process,” he had said.
Vijai had also threatened to move the High Court or the Supreme Court if the authorities fail to initiate the necessary action.
The department moved ahead with the recruitment amid five panels of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP) enquiring into the alleged scam into PSIs recruitment. The enquiry reports have also not been made public.
The selection has sparked anger among some activists who demanded to scrap the posts in line with the government’s decision to scrap the recruitment process in the Health and Public Works departments.
