After a number of postponements and one cancellation, the environmental public hearing on the proposed fishing jetty, passenger jetty, multipurpose cargo berth and petroluem oil and lubricants (POL) terminal by Mormugao Port Trust will take place at Chicalim ground on October 5.
The public hearing to look into concerns and clarifications of persons affected by the proposed projects was initially scheduled on April 20 at Ravindra Bhavan.
The hearing was, however, postponed to April 25 at Tilak Maidan after NGOs and activists demanded a change of venue from the Ravindra Bhavan in Baina to Tilak
Maidan to accommodate a large number of participants expected to attend the public hearing.
The public hearing was further rescheduled after an activist informed the South Goa Collector that the annexures of EIA reports were not submitted. This led to a further postponement of the public hearing to May 11.
However on April 11, MPT stated that the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) had cancelled the public hearing in view of the non-receipt of the requisite documents for the environmental public hearing .
MPT had also mentioned that the cancellation of the public hearing and postponement of the public hearing beyond May 11 may spillover beyond the monsoon as the venue for the public hearing may not be suitable during the rains, thereby resulting in delay in important projects for the State.
