The State police are yet to achieve a breakthrough into the suspected drug overdose death even as it has kept options open to probe all aspects that led to a Puducherry student losing his life at a beachside party.
A highly placed official said that the victim, who was accompanied by his friends to Goa, had partied at various nightclubs since his arrival. Their party at a Saligao nightclub proved fatal for the young student. The investigation could face a setback as “frightened” witnesses are reluctant to divulge details to the Saligao police.
“The boys partied at different locations from Calangute to Anjuna and other places. They met and probably made new friends. However, they are reluctant to throw more light on their nightclub visits. They are frightened,” said an officer. The police team are now tracking the whereabouts of the party attendees with the little information gathered during the ongoing investigation, though, the officer conceded it would be a difficult task.
“Considering the victim attended more than one nightclub during the long weekend since his arrival last Saturday, it will be tedious to track the attendees. Nevertheless, we are making an attempt,” he added.
The police have so far recorded over a dozen statements including that of the 21-year-old’s friends and his family, who took his body to their native on Friday. The forensic team of the Goa Medical College and Hospital conducted a post-mortem and preserved his viscera for chemical analyses.
The report, the officer said, will ascertain the cause of death. “Viscera samples will be sent to the Verna Forensic Science Laboratory in a day or two to know the exact cause of death. Our investigation will proceed in a specific direction once the report is released by the forensic experts,” he said.
Sources said that the family has not suspected any foul play into the death of their child. “We are investigating all the angles,” the officer said.
