Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday lashed out at a Margao-based private prominent private hospital, which reportedly refused to admit a suspected case of COVID-19.  

“A private hospital will be issued a show cause notice soon for refusing to admit a suspect case. I will be instructing the Health Secretary today to issue a show cause notice through the collector. If the hospital repeats this again, we will be forced to cancel the license of that hospital. This is a time of global health emergency,” said Rane.  

He sought to point out that the health department can requisition any number of beds under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897.  

Presently, six dedicated 108 ambulances have been kept aside to transport suspected cases to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim. Disinfecting procedure is also in place, it was learnt. In addition to this, other hospitals and Directorate of Health Services also have ambulances. 

Meanwhile, the government has  emphasized upon all the stakeholders that selling commodities like hand sanitisers, masks will be done strictly in accordance with Section 2 A and section 3 of the “Essential Commodities Act, 1955 (10 of 1955), the Central Government  has ordered to regulate the prices of masks (2 ply & 3 ply) and hand sanitisers for preventing infections due to COVID-19  until said notification in force i.e up to 30th June 2020.
