As part of the Rs 63 lakh beautification and traffic streamlining project in the heart of Navelim village, the PWD, National Highways has commenced work on erecting railings along the footpath to channelize pedestrians and ease traffic congestion.
Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro along with Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim Parish Priest Fr Arlino D’Mello, Navelim Sarpanch Bevinda Gonsalves and Deputy Sarpanch Paul Pereira, PWD, NH Executive Engineer Laxmikant Naik and others inspected the Rs 7.5 lakh railing project, with the MLA saying the work will go a long way in instilling traffic discipline and ease traffic congestion.
Faleiro later told the media that the railing project will stop pedestrians from crossing the road at the Navelim traffic junction but instead channelize the movement to the subway and the zebra crossing.
“Navelim today is an education hub, catering to around 10,000 student community. We have been trying our best to ease traffic congestion at the junction. While the railing project will help channelize movement of pedestrians to the subway and the zebra crossing, it will also help to operationalize the traffic signals at the junction,” Faleiro said, adding that the railing project should be complete in the next couple of days.
The Navelim MLA said the Rs 63 lakh beautification and traffic streamlining project will be implemented in phases, which includes hot-mixing of the road.
Parish Priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim Fr Arlino D’Mello praised the Navelim MLA for initiating the railing work, saying it will help in instilling traffic discipline at the busy junction.
Navelim Sarpanch Bevinda Gonsalves thanked the Navelim MLA for initiating the work at the Navelim traffic junction.
