The PWD has finally begun the process to demolish non-functional overhead water tanks in Vasco.
Once such overhead tank at New Vaddem was a non-functional water storage tank and posed danger to residents as it was a dilapidated structure and had developed cracks.
Several residents of New Vaddem had repeatedly requested the PWD to immediately begin the demolition work of this tank, as pieces of cement plaster had begun falling down and they feared that it could collapse on pedestrians and motorists, who used the road adjoining the water tank.
A resident, Siddharth Naik, said the tank was built 30 years ago when only a few people were residing in the area.
“Today, this a densely populated area and a new tank has already been built. This is a busy route and there are a lot of motorists and pedestrians moving along the route near the tank,” said Naik
PWD Assistant Engineer S K Gaonkar confirmed that the demolition of the water tank in New Vaddem was in
progress.
