The Public Works Department (PWD) acted swiftly to address a water leakage issue at the entrance of the Sanguem bus stand.
The leakage, which had raised concerns about the wastage of potable water, was first noticed by former Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) Councillor Meshu D’Costa.
Upon noticing the leakage, D’Costa brought the matter to the attention of the authorities concerned.
A team of officials from the water supply division visited the site to investigate the problem and identify the cause of the leakage. After a thorough inspection, the department detected the fault in the water supply line and promptly carried out the necessary repair works on Friday.
The leakage was successfully rectified, preventing further water loss and restoring normal conditions in the area. The prompt response by the PWD was appreciated by local residents, who welcomed the department’s intervention.
D’Costa expressed satisfaction over the timely action taken by the authorities and emphasized the importance of addressing such issues without delay to prevent wastage of valuable water resources.
The major drinking water pipeline leak had sparked concern among locals, who claimed that thousands of litres of treated water were being wasted daily at a time when several parts of Goa grapple with acute water shortages.
The leakage, which allegedly appeared to originate from an underground pipeline beneath the road, had resulted in a continuous flow of water into a nearby gutter despite the absence of rainfall.
Residents alleged that the problem has persisted for more than two weeks and possibly up to a month without any corrective action from authorities.
