Sao Mathias in Divar finally got water supply through tankers on Tuesday with the PWD sending two water tankers, one in the morning and one in the evening.

Similarly, the PWD sent four water tankers to Corlim where the villagers had taken the panchayat to task over non-availability of water.

However, St Estevam village was yet to receive water supply through tankers even as the water crisis entered the sixth day.

It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted how villages in Cumbharjua constituency were suffering due to lack of water supply.

Speaking to The Goan, Sao Mathias Sarpanch Sadanand Phadte informed that the PWD supplied two water tankers in the village, one in the morning and one in the evening.

Chillaya Sawant, a villager from Muddi ward, said the people from the area were relieved as there are no wells in the area and people have to walk for nearly 2 kms to get water.

“With PWD sending a water tanker in the area, it has provided relief to the villagers,” said Sawant, while thanking the sarpanch and the PWD for providing water tankers.

Corlim Sarpanch Shiva Naik said four water tankers were provided in Corlim by the PWD, through which water was distributed in different wards of the village.

However, it was a different scenario in St Estevam as Deputy Sarpanch Chiara Gomes informed that even on Tuesday the PWD had failed to send a water tanker to the village.

“The sarpanch called up the PWD today but the junior engineer informed that water tanker would be provided only on Wednesday,” Gomes said.

“If normal water supply doesn’t resume even on Wednesday, panchayat members along with the youth will resume supplying water through their own community initiative.”
