The PWD on Thursday assured residents of Kundaim that it would start road-widening work on the main road by May 25.
PWD officers held talks with the panchayat and residents at Manaswada-Kundaim and following these assurances, locals agreed to allow movement of traffic from Thursday.
They, however, warned that if road-widening work of the main road does not start by the assured date, they would block the service road.
Locals are upset over frequent road mishaps and as a mark of protest, had stopped traffic from the service road.
On Sunday night, a container fell on eight other vehicles, damaging two four-wheelers and six two-wheelers. Six persons were injured in this accident.
On Thursday morning, PWD Assistant Engineer Sanjay Bakhale discussed the issue with Sarpanch Sarvesh Jalmi, former Sarpanch Ramu Naik and others in the presence of Ponda Mamlatdar Vinod Dalal, Ponda Police Inspector Vijaykumar Chodankar and other officers.
Jalmi said PWD had assured them that the road-widening work would start by May 25 and that, a police team would be deployed in the vicinity when traffic resumes from the service road.
