Amid fears that Karnataka government's decision to divert water from Mhadei River may cause drinking water problems in many parts of Goa, efforts are underway to focus on water storage with a special priority to rainwater harvesting in the monsoon.
The Water Resources Department has introduced schemes and details of these schemes were presented at a meet in Miroda-Bhironda.
WRD Junior Engineer Aziz Shah advised people to fill in the necessary paperwork to take advantage of this rainwater harvesting scheme. He said schemes offered by the WRD include financial assistance ranging between Rs 15,000 and Rs 1 lakh.
In a bid to create public awareness on these schemes, Shah said similar meetings will be organised in various panchayat areas across Sattari taluka.
He also informed that emphasis will be laid on rainwater harvesting at Ravana in Keri Panchayat area.
Swayampurna Mitra Dilip Naik appealed to residents to focus on rainwater harvesting in the coming monsoon season.
“If the citizens work towards rainwater harvesting, it can solve much of the water problems in Sattari,” said Naik.
Bhironda Sarpanch Udaysingh Rane said residents should promote rainwater harvesting to ensure that there is sufficient water supply.
Panch members Rupali Gawkar, Ranjana Rane, Baburao Gawde, Kiran Gawde, Videsh Naik, Manisha Pillyekar, Rohidas Naik, Ganpat Gawkar, Rajaram Rane, Diya Gawkar and others were present on the occasion.
