Other than the cosmetic change of a whitewash at the subway structure and repairs of lamps inside the subway, both the Margao Municipal Council and the PWD could not stop the flow of the sewage water into it. The PWD, roads is yet to hot mix the stretch of the damaged road to the subway.
While the PWD maintained that the department may require the permission of the Konkan Railway Corporation to plug the sewage leakage from the underground sewerage line, the Margao Municipal Council informed that the civic body has issued show cause notice to two housing buildings at Comba, suspecting these two buildings are the source of sewage water flow into the subway.
MMC Chief Officer Y B Tawde told The Goan that the MMC has issued show cause notices to the two buildings to stop the sewage flow into the drain, with warning of disconnection of water and power supply to the buildings.
Municipal engineer Surendra Gaonkar further informed that the civic body has asked the managements of the two buildings to act within the set time frame or face disconnection of water and power supply.
On the other hand, PWD officials said that repair or plugging the sewerage leakage from the damaged underground line running parallel to the railway line may take some time since it involves seeking prior permission of the KRC to carry out the work.
During an inspection of the subway last week, the TCP Minister had directed officials of various agencies to spruce up the road underbridge, including plugging of the sewage water finding its way into the subway, before the re-opening of the schools in the coming academic year 2017-18.
