PORVORIM
After receiving widespread criticism for the many potholes on roads in the State, the PWD has received further flak for allowing other obstacles to endanger motorists in the State.
In one such case, an electricity pole right has been left in the middle of a road between Parra and Aradi-Guirim and this has now become a major problem to traffic along the route.
According to locals, the electricity pole was originally located by the roadside.
“The PWD had recently widened and hotmixed the road, but did not bother to shift this electricity pole while widening the road. With the widened road, the electricity pole is now in the middle of the road,” said a resident.
“The presence of the electricity pole has posed a major threat to unsuspecting motorists, especially at night. Several accidents have taken place at this spot but the PWD has not shifted this pole despite repeated requests from the people,” the resident added.
The Guirim panchayat has also criticised the PWD for being “careless” in allowing an electricity pole to remain in the middle of the road,
adding that the PWD was clearly aware of the danger to motorists.
“The Guirim panchayat had written several letters to the PWD requesting it to move the electricity pole from the middle of the road, but in vain. The department should have removed the electricity pole and shifted it to the roadside before widening and hotmixing the road,” said Guirim Panchayat Deputy Sarpanch Sunny
Nanodkar.
“People who use this road to travel regularly to and from Parra via Guirim are aware of the pole. But those using the road for the first time have rammed right into the pole. This careless attitude of the PWD has become a headache not only for motorists but to the panchayat as well,” said Nanodkar.
