PONDA
Stating that the Director of Panchayats had dismissed the petition locals from Undir-Bandora challenging the license issued to the Sewerage Treatment Plant in the locality, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Saturday hinted at plans to build the STPs at the proposed sites.
In the order, the DoP stated that the attempt by the Sewerage Corporation “to implement and enforce laws and rules for the purpose of providing a healthy environment can by no means be said to be illegal, as a Town and Country Planning Department as well as the CRZ authority has granted necessary approvals.”
“In what way and in which manner the said Sewerage Treatment facility would act as a health hazard is not espoused by the petitioner.”
“Apart from this, the petitioner has also not disclosed the future course of action as to what is the next best solution for maintaining ecological balance and healthy environment,” the order stated.
Dhavalikar said the STP project would help keep the city and its surroundings clean.
“At many places, sewage is released into nallahs. When this project is commissioned, you will not witness such incidents,” Dhavalikar said. “I appeal to people to support us in building these STPs in Kavale, Ponda, Curti and Undir, to help us maintain cleanliness in these areas,” Dhavalikar said.
Asked if these STPs would be set up at all the proposed sites, Dhavalikar gave a broad smile and pointed to the DoP order.
