VASCO
Several movie lovers in and around Vasco have been left high and dry with no movie screenings during IFFI 2018 despite having full-fledged screening facilities at Ravindra Bhavan, Baina.
The Ravindra Bhavan, Baina could have been a good venue for movie screenings in Mormugao Taluka as it has good facilities with good projectors and sound system available.
A lot of Konkani movies shot and made in Goa are regularly exhibited in Ravindra Bhavan, Baina.
According to a source in Ravindra Bhavan, Vascokars could have benefited if the facility was used for free movie screenings.
“Such a beautiful facility has been created by the Art and Culture Department, but sadly, it is not being used. IFFI presented a good opportunity where movies could have been showcased for the people of Mormugao,” said the source.
“The Ravindra Bhavan is in excellent condition and the people of Vasco are being deprived from enjoying the IFFI festivities for so many years now. People from Vasco may not be able to go all the way to Panjim for movies and this venue would have been the best for such free movie screenings,” he added.
“This place has all the amenities and a capacity for seating 760 people with good quality projectors for screening of movies. The organisers of IFFI should have considered this venue for Mormugao at least this year. The organisers must explain why IFFI celebrations in Goa are limited to Margao and Panjim only when the event could have been celebrated across Goa so that everyone can enjoy the movies being showcased during IFFI. This is a property of the Art and Culture Department and IFFI should be held here. The Art and Culture Department should have taken steps to make use of the set-up made by them for such events and as such they are equally responsible for denying Vascokars of the opportunity of participating in IFFI. If IFFI screenings can happen in Ravindra Bhavan, Margao then why not here in Baina,” he further asked.
