P’yat polls: Only 10 candidates in Mencurem

With one candidate already declared unopposed, only 10 candidates are left to contest elections in four other wards at the five-member Mencurem panchayat.

And that’s not all. Except for former sarpanch Nalita Naik, the remaining nine candidates are new faces in the panchayat polls.  
Gajanan Chari has been elected unopposed from Ward 2 and elections will be held in Wards 1, 3, 4 and 5.   
Former sarpanch Nalita Naik (Ward 3) is the only panch from the previous term to contest elections 
this time round and she will be contesting against Ashwita Parwar and Sanjana 
Naik.  
Ward 1 will witness a straight fight between Kamal Shetye and Vishakha Naik, while Ward 4 will 
have a triangular fight between Dnyneshwar Parab, Gurudas Parab and Sachin Parab.   
Ward 5 will also feature a straight fight between Mohan Naik and Suresh Naik.

Sonsodo waste screening executed ‘illegally’: UGF

Asserting that the screening of the Sonsodo waste has been executed “illegally” without a tender to satisfy the Goa Forward so that its leader Vijai Sardesai could convince people of his decision to join hands with the BJP, the United Goans Foundation said on Saturday that the ongoing waste screening project at Sonsodo is being carried out without complying with the codal formalities.
