P’yat tells land owner to stop illegal activity

In another development on the controversy surrounding the installation of Shivaji statue, the Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat on Monday directed the land owner Sartaj Makandar, a resident of Housing Board, Margao to forthwith stop all alleged illegal activities and report to the panchayat office.

In the notice, Sarpanch Linda Fernandes has ordered the owner to produce the necessary license, plans, documents, if any, for verification, failing which action deemed fit would be initiated.

The panchayat’s action comes following a letter received from ward member Carmina Fernandes and others in respect of the activities being carried out in the property in question.

“It is observed that you are undertaking illegal land filling in property bearing survey no 229/2 and illegal activities under 66 of the Goa Panchayat Raj act, 1994 in property bearing survey no 229/5 of Sao Jose de Areal without taking permission from the competent Authority”, the notice stated.

A delegation of the Sao Jose de Areal panchayat led by Sarpanch, deputy Sarpanch Valente Fernandes and others visited the site.
