The construction of Quepem Municipal staff quarters at Bhat-Quepem is once again facing problem, as project file which was sent to DMA three years ago has gone missing.

During a function, Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar had assured the Bhat locals that he would build new quarters by demolishing the old structure. However, the project never saw the light of day and now the project file has gone missing.

When contacted, Kavlekar said the project file was submitted to the Directorate of Municipal Administration, but it has gone missing. “I will have to check the file with the PWD and the file will be put up for procedure,” he added.

When it was inquired with Quepem Municipal Council Chairperson Filu D'Costa, he said all necessary procedures have been done from municipal council's side and the file was sent to DMA for further action.

Speaking to The Goan, Chief Officer Pramod Dessai said the quarters are in very bad condition. “QMC was planning to utilise a part of the Golden Jubilee funds for construction of new quarters. For this purpose, we had submitted the project file to DMA three years ago for administrative approval, but now we have received response from DMA officials that the file is missing,” Dessai added.

“Now we have decided to prepare file and once again move the file for the process. The Government Finance Review (GFR) has also changed and the entire process will have to be done again. QMC has utilised partial amount of the Golden Jubilee fund for commercial complex building and the remaining amount will be utilised for municipal quarters project,” Dessai added.
