OLD GOA

Activist Aires Rodrigues has raised suspicion on the legality of Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar’s bungalow at Old Goa, which was inaugurated recently.

Rodrigues has sought that an FIR be filed against Se Old Goa Sarpanch Janita Madkaikar and Panchayat Secretary Ashish Naik, as he claimed that panchayat officials have orally informed him that the file of the bungalow has gone missing.

In his application to Old Goa police, Rodrigues has stated that he filed two applications on April 4 and 5 under RTI Act, wherein he sought information and inspection of files pertaining to construction of Madkaikar’s bungalow, from the Se Old Goa panchayat.

“I am now orally informed by the panchayat officials that the said files have gone missing and are untraceable, which clearly amounts to an act of cheating too,” Rodrigues states in his application, while raising suspicion that the files could have been intentionally concealed or possibly destroyed by the panchayat officials to ensure that the illegalities by the power minister are not exposed.

Rodrigues has further sought that FIR should be registered against the Se Old Goa sarpanch and the panchayat secretary under Sections 201, 204 and 420 of IPC read with section 120-B IPC.

The Old Goa police confirmed receiving the application from Rodrigues, but stated that the issue is under study.

‘Files available with panchayat’

OLD GOA: The Se Old Goa panchayat has informed that files pertaining to Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar’s bungalow at Old Goa is very much available with the panchayat.

“The panchayat initially received a RTI application from Rodrigues on April 4, wherein information was sought on Pandurang Madkaikar’s bungalow. But, since the bungalow is not registered in the name of Madkaikar, another application was received from Rodrigues seeking information on the bungalow of Nikitasha Realtors Pvt Ltd, a real estate agency run by Madkaikar,” a panchayat source told The Goan.

“Since the panchayat did not have any record pertaining to Pandurang Madkaikar’s bungalow, it was informed to Rodrigues that the same would have to be searched,” added the source, while stating that it could have possibly created confusion that the file has gone missing, which is not the case.

“We have the file in the panchayat and the application of Rodrigues would be disposed within 30 days as mandated under the RTI Act, 2005, and all information along with documents would be provided,” the source assured.
