Will Health Minister Vishwajit Rane explain to the people of South Goa the fate of the cardiac centre proposed at the South Goa district hospital way back in 2021?
Or, is the proposed cardiac centre, including the Cath lab delayed for want of suitable space in the South Goa district hospital?
The Goan understands that the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), the agency which executed the South Goa district hospital, was given a brief on whether the Cath lab can come on the terrace of the second floor of the district hospital building.
Sources in the know, however, pointed out that the GSIDC has submitted a report to the government, categorically ruling out the possibility of creating a structure on the terrace of the building's second floor for the proposed Cath lab.
Since then, the government is believed to have not set in motion the process of identifying a suitable space at the South district hospital to house the proposed Cath lab and the cardiac centre.
During his visit to the district hospital in 2021, Health Minister Rane announced that the cardiac centre will soon become a reality at the South Goa district hospital. In fact, Rane had announced that people from South Goa need not visit the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim after the cardiac centre becomes a reality in the South.
After the government missed the deadline, the Health Minister on November 30 last year, during his visit to the hospital along with Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar, had asserted that the government is committed to honouring its promise of setting up a cardiac facility at South district hospital.
