MARGAO
Telephone subscribers from Raia and surrounding areas are facing double trouble for no fault of theirs.
While the BSNL telephone exchange located at Loutolim is shut down for months now and the telephone lines are down and out, the subscribers have not stopped receiving telephone bills from the operator.
A telephone subscriber Xavier Fernandes, a resident of Raia realised this bitter truth when he received a telephone bill in respect of three months amounting to Rs 635.
Left with no option, Xavier has dashed a letter to the BSNL office, drawing the attention of the officials that he has been paying the bills for the last three months when he is not getting connectivity and no service at all.
Demanding to know how come BSNL has raised the bills when he is not getting connectivity or service, Xavier said that BSNL has to refund the amount or adjust accordingly.
“I am not the only person who is facing this double trouble from the BSNL. When the subscribers go to the telephone office at Loutolim, we found the premises locked. We have to travel to Margao with our queries,” he said.
He added: “When our telephones are down and out, and the BSNL is not restoring the services, it is not proper to charge us the amount.”
