Around seven scrapyards operating illegally in Curtorim were unearthed  during a raid cum inspection conducted by the Curtorim village  panchayat.

The panchayat team led by Deputy Sarpanch Simon Barretto  descended at the Eclate and Vaguliem wards accompanied by the panchayat  secretary and the respective ward members, only to find the seven scrapyards operating illegally in the two wards.

The deputy sarpanch informed  that the inspection has revealed that the scrapyards were operating  without any permission from the local panchayat body. He, however, said  these scrapyards were enjoying power and water connections obtained  under the Health Act. “The panchayat will write to the Health Centre to  draw its attention to the misuse of the power and water connections to  run the illegal scrapyards,” Simon said, adding that the panchayat will  also initiate action against the illegal scrapyards as per the law in  force.
