Rail employee's body identified
PONDA: The body found at Dudhsagar waterfall on Thursday has been identified as that of Mariappa Birgi, a helper at Hubli railway station.
According to Collem Police, the family members of the deceased reached Goa on Friday morning and they identified the body. Police later handed over the body to them to perform the last rites.
Police informed that Birgi had boarded Amravati Express from Hubli on April 20, and his body was found in the waterfall pond on April 21. Police have registered the case as unnatural death.
It may be recalled that Collem Police had received a call stating that a body was floating in the Dudhsagar waterfall pond and a police team retrieved the body on Thursday evening. It was preserved in the morgue of Goa Medical College.
Police contacted the family members of the deceased, after they found his identity card in the bag.
