Guirdolim Sarpanch Janet Cardozo and deputy Brian Pereira have maintained that the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd has till date not submitted the expansion plans of the Railways in the village.
While the duo strongly demanding restoration of the rivulet to its original condition, they lamented that the Railways have not bothered to submit the expansion plans in respect of the track-doubling works in Guirdolim village.
“The villagers are worried as an existing rivulet is being buried by the Railways while executing the track-doubling work. They have dumped the construction debris on land which does not form of land acquisition,” Brian told the media.
He demanded that the work has to stop immediately if the land, where the debris is dumped, is not acquired. “The Railways have to take care of the flow of water through the natural water course. Since the Railways have now decided to have a meeting with the panchayat and local villagers, we will certainly ask the Railways to produce documents on land acquisition and the filling up of the rivulet,” Brian said, adding that the panchayat has not issued any permission for the construction of the road along the tracks.
