Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Friday submitted a memorandum to railway authorities demanding special trains between Vasco and Vailankanni on account of the annual feast of Our Lady of Good Health at Vailankanni on September 8.
Salkar submitted the memorandum to Vasco Railway station manager Bipul Kumar in the presence of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Leo Rodrigues, Councillors Deepak Naik, Girish Borker and others.
“We have submitted a memorandum to demand additional trains between Goa and Vailankanni to accommodate the extra rush of thousands of pilgrims that attend the annual feast at Vailankanni. We have also requested that the trains halt at Vailankanni for two days so that the pilgrims can get time to attend the Novena and offer prayers,” said Salkar.
“Usually, the train leaves from Vasco on August 27 and reaches Vailankanni on August 28 and returns from there to Goa on the same night (August 28). Because of this, pilgrims don’t get much time. We have now requested the Railways to halt the trains for two days so that pilgrims get enough time to visit the shrine, offer prayers, attend Novena and return to Goa. We have suggested that train which departs on August 27 returns on the August 30,” he added.
