Almost the entire State witnessed lightning, thunder and heavy rains on Sunday evening with the downpour being particularly heavy in Valpoi and to some extent in Mapusa.
The showers were also accompanied by gusty winds.
The weather observatory has recorded the maximum rainfall of 40 mm in Valpoi and the station at Mapusa recorded 14.5 mm of rainfall.
Earlier, Goa also experienced a longer spell of heavy rain, thunder and lightning for nearly an hour around Saturday-Sunday midnight.
The showers, meanwhile, helped bring down temperatures and cool down the impact of the heatwave conditions.
Temperatures for several days had been breaching the 36 degrees centigrade mark and the rains on Sunday quickly brought the mercury down to the 24.2 to 25.4 degrees centigrade mark.
Meanwhile, the IMD on Sunday announced that the Southwest monsoon has already advanced into the southern Bay of Bengal and over Nicobar islands and the south Andaman Sea. It also further extended the yellow alert for Goa till May 21.
It said that the monsoon made an advance over the Maldives and Comorin areas on time.
