Two four-wheelers were damaged at Orlim after a tree came crashing down on the parked vehicles on Tuesday, as incessant rains continued to disrupt normal life in Salcete taluka.
The compound of the imposing Osia Commercial Complex, also housing a couple of government departments, was submerged under flood water, leaving office goers and shoppers with no option but to wade through the flood water to make it to the complex.
Fire Officer Gill D’Sa informed that the two four-wheelers which were parked had been damaged after a tree came crashing down on Tuesday.
He said the fire brigade received several calls after trees came down on garages, compound walls and roads throughout Tuesday.
Meanwhile, normal life was thrown out of gear in many parts of Salcete on Tuesday with the taluka lashed by heavy and incessant rains.
The Rawanfond junction was inundated by flood water, affecting the smooth movement of traffic.
A stretch of the Eastern bypass near the Maruti Mandir turned into an eyesore after the accumulated waste slid down on the main road.
Margao’s Old station road was also inundated with water as usual, throwing normal life out of gear.
The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has decided to give financial assistance of Rs five lakh to each Deputy Collector of the 12 talukas to meet the expenditure towards the preparation for disaster at the taluka level.
The expenditure shall be borne from State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) under capacity building.
In this respect, the two District Collectors have been requested to allot the amount to each Deputy Collector under their control from the balance SDRF under capacity building available with the department.
The two district Collectors have been requested to obtain the necessary utilisation certificate from the concerned Deputy Collector and submit to this department.
