Ramanmurthy appointed SEC

Former Civil Services officer W V Ramanmurthy, IAS, was on Thursday appointed the Goa State Election Commissioner and he immediately took charge ending the saga of the Constitutional post midway into the civic poll. 

The order appointing Ramamurthy was issued by the Director of Panchayats , Govt of Goa today. 

Soon after taking office Ramanmurthy said: "I will discharge my duty as per the constitution."

He however declined to take any questions from journalists on the election process of the five Municipalities stalled by the Supreme Court of India.

He said, he will comment on those five civic body elections only after studying the matter in detail.

PANAJIThe vigorous campaign for elections to the Corporation of the City of Panaji and six municipalities elections came to end on Thursday evening. The residents of CCP along with six municipalities -- Bicholim, Valpoi, Pernem, Cuncolim, Curchorem and Canacona -- will exercise their franchise on March 20 and the counting of votes is scheduled for March 22.While the polling will begin from 8 am to 5 pm, SEC has scheduled polling for Covid-19 patients from 4 pm to 5 pm.A…
