With W V Ramanmurthy taking over the charge as the State Election Commissioner on Thursday, the petitioners, who had challenged the ward reservations, are bracing up for another battle “ this time to request the SEC to take up counting of votes of the municipal bodies and the ZP bye-poll only after holding elections for all the Councils.
While the opposition leaders on Thursday had briefed the newly-appointed State Election Commissioner, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai said the new SEC should respect the spirit behind holding counting of votes together to prevent any political party from gaining advantage in the second phase of polling.
As the new SEC was reportedly not clear in his stand that the counting of votes should be taken up simultaneously of all the municipal bodies and the Navelim ZP bye-poll, the petitioners who had moved the High Court against the ward reservations, Rumaldo Fernandes and Fausiya Sheikh are expected to file a petition before the SEC on the matter on Friday.
