The Children’s Court has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for an offense wherein he is charged with raping his underage niece.
Pedro Colaco, aged 46, was booked under sections 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code, 8 (2) of Goa Children’s Act and 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act based on a written complaint filed by NGO Childline, and subsequently chargesheeted on August 23, 2018.
As per the complaint, the victim, then aged 14 years was five months pregnant after being raped by the accused.
During the trial, 13 witnesses were examined by the prosecution.
The Court, after hearing both - State and the respondent accused - found Colaco guilty of the offense convicting him. He was sentenced to 10 years RI with a fine of Rs 2 lakh.
The penalty will be deposited in the name of the survivor in Fixed Deposit in any nationalized bank, till she attains majority age, the Court ordered.
