Scooter rider rams vehicle into road divider

A pre-dawn scooter accident at the Cortalim flyover on December 28, 2025, claimed the life of a pillion rider after the two-wheeler rammed into a road divider.
Police said the incident occurred at around 4.00 hrs when a scooter rider travelling from Panaji towards Margao, lost control while negotiating the flyover bridge at Cortalim.
The scooter hit the road divider with force, throwing both the rider and the pillion rider onto the road.
The rider has been identified as Vinod Bajaj, a native of Madhya Pradesh, while the pillion rider was Sahil Kumar Pinjani, also a resident of Madhya Pradesh. Both sustained serious injuries in the crash and were rushed to GMC Bambolim for treatment, where Sahil Kumar Pinjani was declared brought dead.
Based on a state complaint filed by Head Constable Siddesh Dessai of Verna Police Station, police said the scooter was being ridden in a rash and negligent manner at the time of the accident.
Verna police have registered a case under sections 281 and 106(i) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Mahesh Bhomkar of Verna Police Station under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
