Ratio pattern for recruiting police officers tweaked

PANAJI
The Pramod Sawant-led cabinet on Wednesday adopted new Goa Police Service Rules, 2022, which introduces a new Senior Administrative Grade and a new schedule II which tweaks the ratio pattern for filling up officers’ posts from the existing 50-50 by promotion and direct recruitment to 40 per-cent by direct and 60 per-cent by promotion.

Among a slew of other decisions, the cabinet also extended the relaxation of rules by another six months until September 30, permitting casino licencees to pay their licence fees on a monthly basis instead of a lump sum annual payment. The licence fees have also been hiked by 10 per cent.

The aggregate licence fee dues from all the casino licensees for the current 2022-23 fiscal has been pegged at Rs 320 crore.

Meanwhile, the cabinet granted its approval to the proposal of creating 18 posts to be provided as staff to former chief minister Pratapsing Rane who was accorded ‘permanent cabinet status’ in January this year.

A significant feature of the new Goa Police Service rules is the detailed scheme laid down for the conduct of competitive examination for direct recruitment which includes a written examination and an oral interview.

The cabinet on Wednesday also took note of the arbitration order of the tribunal pertaining to works of the Panaji’s Smart City totally worth Rs 164.9 crores and related to five projects.

The contractor, AECOM India Private Limited, had bagged the projects of the Cafe Bhosale square, fisherman wharf at Ribandar, community market at Ribandar, universal walkways and ‘Smart Ribandar’.
