In a special council meeting convened at the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) on Monday, Sainath Raul, a youthful councillor, clinched the position of chairman for the pivotal Market Committee.
This meeting marked the first since Nutan Bicholkar assumed the role of Chairperson.
Bicholkar, in her capacity as Chairperson, automatically presides over the crucial Standing Committee, responsible for decisions carrying financial implications within the council.
Assisting her are Vice-Chairperson Sushant Harmalkar, Prakash Bhivshet, Tarak Arolkar, and Kamal D’Souza, rounding out the panel’s composition.
Additionally, various subject committees were constituted during this meeting. Sainath Raul leads the Market Committee, accompanied by members Vikas Arolkar, Tanvi Korgaonkar, Kishori Korgoankar and Barbara Carrasco.
Other committees and their respective leaders and members include:
Planning Development Committee: Priya Mishal (chairman), Tarak Arolkar, Sainath Raul and Anvi Korgankar.
Public Works, Sanitation, and Drainage Committee: Viraj Phadke (chairman), Ashirwad Khorjuvekar, Kishori Korgankar, Prakash Bhiveshet and Kamal D’Souza.
Environment, Garden, Preservation of Open Spaces Committee: Vikas Arolkar (chairman), Ashirwad Khorjuvekar, Swapnil Shirodkar, Chandrashekhar Benkar and Shubhangi Vaigankar.
Lighting of Public Streets, Places, Public Receptions, Ceremonies, Fairs, Entertainment and Library Committee: Swapnil Shirodkar (chairman), Priya Mishal, Viraj Phadke, Shubhangi Vaigankar and Barbara Carrasco.
Notably, all committee members were elected unopposed, underscoring the unity within the council.
The special council meeting at the MMC hall saw the majority of councillors in attendance, with only Shashank Narvekar and Anand Bhaidkar absent.
