Ravana locals complain about transportation of Khadi

VALPOI

Locals in Ravana in Keri-Sattari have complained about large-scale transportation of crushed stone for concrete aggregates (Khadi) through the village and have threatened to agitate, if this transportation is not stopped immediately.

In a memorandum to the Sattari deputy collector, the locals pointed out that truckloads of Khadi are being transported to Goa from parts of Maharashtra.

They complained that these trucks travel in a rash manner and pose a serious threat to pedestrians and children who play by the roadside in residential parts of the village. They alleged that trucks are using this internal route to evade paying taxes to the government.

The locals claimed that similar transportation activities were stopped last year following protests by the villagers, but they stated that the transportation has resumed now.

Alleging that dozens of trucks ply along the route on a daily basis, the villagers have demanded that the Keri panchayat takes immediate measures to stop this transportation.

They have warned that if authorities fail to take any action in the matter, they will march to the office of the departments concerned. They have even threatened to block the road and stop the movement of Khadi transportation.
