South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Thursday said he would not shy away from taking over the reigns of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) if asked to do so by the party leadership.
He, however, hastened to add that he is one politician who will not lobby for any post or position in the party, pointing out that his visit to the national capital was purely in connection with the Parliamentary Committee meeting on Science and Technology.
The South Goa MP, who returned to Goa on Thursday, spoke his mind on the leadership issue facing the Goa Congress, expressing his willingness to take over the party reigns as a loyal soldier if the Party leadership asks him to lead the party.
“My visit to Delhi was purely in connection with the meeting on Science and Technology, held on Wednesday. I did not call on any senior leaders nor I had any appointment. I went to the national capital only to attend the Parliamentary committee meeting and was not called to Delhi by the party leadership”, he asserted.
Sardinha, however, hastened to add that he would not shy away from taking over the party leadership if the High command asks him to do so. “I am ready to lead the party if the party asks me do so to ensure that the party returns back to power with the help of all Congressmen and the support of the people”, he said.
The MP recalled that the people of Goa had got him elected to the Lok Sabh in 2019 even though he had contested the election after a gap of five years.
“I have conveyed my views and opinions on the current political situation in the state and state of affairs of the party in Goa”, he said.
The MP had in recent times had voiced his concern over the state of the party in the state over the successive defeats the party had faced in the elections.
He was believed to have conveyed his views on the GPCC leadership and why the party should take immediate call to revamp the party with just six months to go for the election.
