Attendance of Margao Municipal employees has come under the scanner of the newly-elected Chairperson Lyndon Pereira.
Since he took over the reign of office a month ago, the newly-elected chairperson has ensured that all the Municipal staff and employees sign the muster roll right in his chamber. In fact, the muster rolls are no longer kept in the respective sections or in the chamber of the Chief Officer, but inside the spacious cabin of the Municipal chairperson.
To ensure that the employees adhere to the office timings, the chairperson makes it sure that he makes it to the office on time before 9.30 am. Even on days, he cannot make it to the Municipal building, the doors of his chamber are kept open for the employees to come and sign the rolls.
Says Lyndon: “I have started this practice wherein the staff and employees sign the muster rolls in my chamber to ensure punctuality and attendance. This is in no way aimed at harassing the employees, but ensures that the staff and employees report for duties on time.”
What has been observed during the last few days is that not all the employees make it to the civic body exactly at 9.30 am. “I also understand that many an employee may find it difficult to make it for work on time in times of Covid. It’s only when the employees report for duties half an hour late, they will be marked absent for the day,” Lyndon warned.
By evening, the chairperson is back in his chamber to ensure that the employees sign the muster roll right at 5.45 pm.
Sources in the know informed that the Municipal chairperson has taken the decision to keep the muster rolls in his chamber in view of complaints that the municipal staff and employees report for duties either late in the morning or go home early.
In fact, sources pointed out that the Municipal building is found without employees after 5 pm, indicating that the staffer prefer to head home early before 5.45 pm.
Another reason why the Chairperson has got the muster rolls in his chamber is that the bio-metric readers are presently not being put to use because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
