With relaxations on markets reopening in State, residents raise concerns over SOPs being flouted in Valpoi

VALPOI
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant may have permitted fish markets to open as part of relaxations to the extended curfew, but the crowds at the Valpoi market with little social distancing and Covid-related SOPs have led to concerns among residents in the town.

With Covid cases on the decline in Sattari, there are concerns that people have become complacent and have begun ignoring SOPs while visiting the Valpoi market.

Crowds have been thronging the Valpoi market, especially at supermarkets in the town, with little social distancing and other safety measures by the people.

Motorists were busy travelling in the streets and people flocked in large numbers at various shops, almost giving the impression of a pre-pandemic situation.

“Why have the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC), police and taluka authorities failed to take action in order to enforce discipline and SOPs in Valpoi town? Who will be responsible if there is a rise in Covid cases due to movement of people without precautions,” asked a resident of Valpoi.

When contacted, VMC Chairperson Sehzain Sheikh said the market inspector has been asked to take action in the matter.
