MARGAO
Dumping of debris including garden waste and plants, along the ring road near the Power House triggered an uproar on Thursday.
In fact, an agitated Margao Municipal councillor Damu Shirodkar has warned MMC Chairperson Lyndon Pereira that he would be left with no option than to collect the waste and dump the same in front of the Margao Municipal building if the waste is not cleared within 10 days.
The Municipal Chairperson along with deputy Deepali Sawal descended at the ring road after councillor Damu Shirodkar and residents of Ward No. 21 protested over the dumping of the trucks-load of waste along the area developed for the jogging track.
Damu pointed out that while the other side of the ring road was being used over the years for dumping of garbage, the side, which is now being developed for the jogging track along the ring road has now come in handy for the dumping of waste.
“Why should the entire waste of Margao, comprising of garden waste, plants and debris being dumped along the ring road. The fire wood ought to have been disposed of to the crematorium instead of being dumped here,” Damu said.
He pointed out that the dumping of the fire wood, plants and the debris has made the area an eyesore, coming in the way of the work of the jogging track, as he set a 10-day deadline on the Municipal Chairperson to clear the debris.
The MMC chairperson gave the Municipal councillor and the residents a patient hearing, promising to work out a solution.
